Minister of Niger Delta, Dr. Stephen Oru has implored former President Olusegun Obasanjo to apologise to Nigerians and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for his attitude towards President Goodluck Jonathan.

Oru maintained that Obasanjo who has an unfettered access to the President and could have raised his objections in a more civil way.

"With all these privileges of life and opportunities, one would have not expected that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo for whatever reason use various means at his disposal to disparage the person and office of President Goodluck Jonathan.

"He treated the party that provided the platform and support that threw him up from his lowest state of life to the enviable position of authority as the President of Nigeria, a position which he utilised to become international icon in such a disdainful manner.

The FBF announced, "The Burkinabe Football Federation has just taken the first step in selecting a national coach, producing the shortlist that includes the names of the top three contenders for the post."

It has emerged the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology paid female singer Mzbel GHc 50,000 for the attack on her by some students of the school during a 2005 performance.

The singer has for the first time in 10 years revealed she received the sum as compensation, and also to prevent her from pressing for damages at the law courts.

"It was GHc 50,000," she told Stacy Amoateng on last weekend's edition of the Restoration With Stacy personality talk show. Real name Belinda Nana Akua Amoah, she was molested by a group of students of the university who had called for her to continue performing when she was done with her booked, stage time.

"When my crew and I were leaving the auditorium, some of the students came up to me, saying they wanted to take pictures with me. While we were at it, others came from nowhere to shake my hands," she narrated (in January 2006) the scenes that led to her October, 2005 ordeal.

"Unfortunately, that exit was like a big window through which I had to jump. Just when I was about to jump, someone grabbed hold of my legs and within a twinkle of an eye, there were a whole mob of students pulling my legs.

" Her trousers and underpant were pulled down in the process. The mob took advantage of her nakedness and started fingering her."They revealed everything by pulling my pants and trousers down to my knee".

She subsequently sued the university, claiming damages to the tune of ¢600 million (now GHc 60, 000). Filed at an Accra High Court on Wednesday January 18, 2006, and led by her then manager and now ex convict Isaac Abeidu Aidoo, a.k.a 'Goodies', it had KNUST as first defendant:

The Vice Chancellor as second defendants, and the college of Art as third defendant. The fourth, fifth and sixth defendants were Alex Dapaah, Aaron Edusah Poku and Theodore Djokoto all students of the university at the time.

In a statement of claim, the plaintiffs said "that by a performance contract entered with them and an invitation by the 2nd defendant to perform and to enable them celebrate their Art Society week to be climaxed by a live musical performance, the 1st plaintiff, Mzbel amongst other musical artistes and performers were scheduled and invited to perform on the night of October 1, 2005 at the KNUST campus, Kumasi.

"The plaintiffs shall contend that the arrangement, safety and security of the venue and that of artistes before during and after the live performance, devolved absolutely on the 1st and 2nd defendants.

By this invitation and performance contract executed, any failures or omissions on their part shall result in a vicarious liability to them."

"The plaintiffs say that while the 1st plaintiff was performing live on stage reserved for the artistes, without any invitation, provocation and permission, a number of male students invaded the stage and in their frenzy without any provocation violently assaulted the 1st plaintiff which assault can best be described as sexual by all imagination.

" The statement of claim further said Dapaah, Poku and Djokoto inserted their fingers into her private part, and also indiscriminately fondled her breast. She sustained bruises on her face and body, causing her excruciating pains, the statement added. The claim also called for sanctions to be imposed on Alex Dapaah, Aaron Edusah Poku and Theodore Djokoto, and payment of fees to Mzbel and Goodies Productions' lawyers. A report by a student fact-finding committee later sought to punch holes in her claims.

Among other things they suggested Mzbel and her three dancers made lewd gestures that may have inspired the students' bad behaviour.

She shot down the suggestions. "It had nothing to do with the way I was dressed. Even on that night when I performed, I was not wearing any extraordinary clothes. I was in a pair of trousers and a jacket."

A war plane has launched air strikes on a western town in Libya allied with the internationally recognized government on Tuesday, in what officials described as an attack by the rival government controlling Tripoli.

Libya is increasingly divided, with the Prime Minister, Abdullah Al-Thinni's recognised government, and his allies locked in a conflict with a rival faction that took over the capital and established its own self-declared government.

"The military jet attacked, hitting the airport in the western town of Zintan in the mountains near the Tunisian border," Airport official from Zintan said, adding that limited damage was caused near the runway while there were no casualties.

But an air strike by the rival Tripoli government would be an escalation of its war with Thinni's forces which had been operating out of the east.

Zintan airport said in a statement that "A warplane conducted an air strike on the airport of Zintan while passengers were about to depart. "Two flights were canceled for security."

While launching the project, at the premises of the Sate Traffic Management Authority, Governor Fashola reiterated his administration's commitment to building a reliable and sustainable Multi- Modal Transport System driven by the private sector.

Governor Fashola also commissioned an Ultra-Modern Magistrates' Court in Ikeja, the State capital.

Fashola began with the 2015 State Council on Health, an event where stakeholders discussed issues in the health sector.

He also appealed to health workers to seek viable platforms to resolve grievances with the State government.

From there, governor Fashola commissioned the Rosaline Omotoso Courthouse in Ikeja.

The magistrate court is equipped with facilities, necessary to enhance the functions of judicial workers.

The governor concluded his official routine at the yard of the State Traffic Management Authority in Oshodi, where the State government demonstrateed its resolve for an efficient transport system, with the launch of additional 100 new Air-Conditioned buses.

The six-week postponement of the 2015 elections may have given INEC more boost in its quest to making sure that more Nigerians are able to participate in the polls.

This is because the commission says it has now distributed over seventy five percent of the PVC for registered voters across the country, leaving about sixteen million voters yet to collect theirs

The new figures released by INEC reveals that the umpire have given out 52.2 million PVCs out of the 68.8 million of registered voters.

A closer look at the list released by INEC shows over 90% of voters in states like Zamfara, Nasarawa, Katsina, Jigawa, Kaduna and Gombe have collected their PVCs.

While Lagos, Rivers, Oyo and Borno states still have about 30% of voters who are yet to collect their PVCs.

Jega Demonstrates Card Reader Use To Senate

INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, is before the Senate at plenary explaining the level of preparedness of INEC for the 2015 election.

He has also demonstrated how the card reader would be used for elections.

Professor Jega defended INEC's use of card readers and PVC's for the 2015 elections saying this is in accordance with the constitution.

He said INEC is empowered by section 16 subsection 4 to use card readers for the election.

Professor Jega also clarified that the card readers are not to be used for voting proper but for accreditation.

He added that the card readers would help eliminate electoral fraud.

The Senate on Tuesday issued a summon to the professor of Political Science when plenary resumed at the Upper Legislative Chamber.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced a shift in the general elections dates to March 28 and April 11. The new schedule was announced on February 7 by Prof Jega, after meetings with political stakeholders.

Prof Jega said that the Presidential Election will hold on March 28 while the Governorship election on April 11.

"We have done wide reaching consultations to enable us have as much input as necessary before taking an informed decision.

"In the series of consultations that we had with stakeholders, the questions constantly posed to them for consideration are; in view of the latest developments, should INEC proceed with the conduct of the general elections as scheduled in spite of the strong advice and if so, what alternative security arrangements are available to be put in place.

"The second is; should INEC take the advice of the security chiefs and adjust the schedules of the general elections within the framework of the constitutional provisions," Professor Jega said.

The Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade has dismissed Abubakar Shekau's threat of causing mayhem during the 2015 general elections, giving strong assurances that the military will be able to secure Nigeria during and after the elections.

General Olukolade on Wednesday told Channels Television that no amount of threat will deter the military's operations from taking place in the North East or anywhere in the country.

He also said a lot of success has been achieved in the past week, in the fight against insurgence adding that Mongunu and other towns hitherto controlled by Boko Haram have been recovered by the Nigerian Military.

Recently, the Nigerian Military took delivery of some military hardware to enable it fight the terrorist to a standstill.

In a video posted on Reuters, Abubakar Shekau condemned states government for not following sharia law, and threatened to stop the elections from holding.

The presidential election has already been postponed from its initial date of February 14 due to security concerns.

According to the video, Abubakar Shekau said "you are claiming that we don't know how to fight, but we forced your forces to flee from their bases and we freed our imprisoned brothers from the prisons that you oppressed them in, only praise be to Allah".

Shekau's who titled the video "A Message to the Leaders of the Disbelievers", also threatened to attack neighbouring countries who are contributing troops to the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) like Chad and Niger.
